Guests attending New Year’s Eve Barefoot Formal at the beautiful Casa Dorada Resort and Spa in Cabot San Lucas were treated to an evening of incredible singing, lots of fabulous dancing and huge amounts of fun.
Kudos to musical director, Michael Orland who we know and love from American Idol.
According to tweets, looks like everyone had an amazing time…what a way to end 2011 and bring in the new year! :)
Included in the Idol lineup was our shining star, Michael and his talented pals, Melinda Doolittle, Ricky Smith and LaToya London. So many fabulous dancers too!! “Dancing with the Stars” performers included Louis Van Amstel, Anna Trebunskaya, Jonathan Roberts, Chelsie Hightower and Dmitry Chaplin. “So You Think You Can Dance” dancers were Allison Holker and Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss.

It was great that both Lori and Dawn were able to make it to the show. Hopefully, “Pastyann”, from our blog was able to make it too!!
What a great cause!! By all accounts, they had a fabulous time and brought us back some wonderful media. Thanks ladies!!
The bands for the evening were rockin’ and Michael, always amazing! The guys in the Jonas band played first. Next up was Jeff Foxworth’s band, Weekend Excursion, and then MJ who performed 4 fan-favourite songs with Jeff and then 1 song with W.E. The final and very special treat of the evening was MJ singing some of his new Christmas song to the girls :)

 ”Come On, Come On”, the rockin’ tune by Michael Johns & The Ontic will be featured on CW’s  The Vampire Diaries this Thursday at 8/7C

Michael performed at Eleven Nightclub with some of his idol pals at “Acoustic Live” Idol Night this past Thursday.
Blake Lewis, Andrew Garcia, Alex Lambert, Allison Iraheta, Katie Stevens were some of the other idols who performed.

Nancy, our friend, MJO member and superfan :) attended and enjoyed herself immensely! She visited with MJ and Stacey and also brought back a fabulous video of him singing Pearl Jam’s “Black” and Radio Head’s “Fake Plastic Trees”…I recognized some screams in there ;)
MJ dedicated “Fake Plastic Trees” to Stacey :)
She also tweeted a couple of MJ pictures too.  He sounds as outstanding as ever and sings with such passion!  These songs are both so popular with fans and “Fake Plastic Trees” has long been one of Nancy’s favourites!

What He Sounds Like:  Vintage jazzy pop/R&B with a velvety soulful voice that leaks tender strength out of every single held note.  Sweet enough to make girls sigh and strong enough to make men want to as well.

Why You’ll Love Him:  Alright now, hold your darn horses and pull back your pitchforks here, I know what you’re thinking, “That dude was on American Idol!  That’s not underrated, under appreciated, underground, under the radar music!  You’ve sold out!  Damn you to hell!!!” and we would not blame you for your anger.  But before you threaten to hit the dreaded “unfollow” button think about this for a minute, even if you’re familiar with Michael Johns’ Idol-related antics have you heard any of his music since he had to suffer the displeasure of being in the same room with Ryan Seacrest? We didn’t think so.  

It’s a epic-fail-like shame that more people haven’t heard of this man’s work because you’ll be hard pressed to find an artist with more emotional soul in the current music scene outside of an Adele album.  In fact I’ll go as far as to say that Michael Johns is the male counterpart to Adele herself, his music is riddled with pain and tortured heartquaking.  With a style reminiscent of Lionel Richie circa 1979 and a chill-causing strain in his upper register that will make you misty eyed if you can relate to the harpsichord melancholy of his lyrcism.  

In a world where you have to feature Akon on your track in order to have a number 1 single Michael Johns’ hearkens back to the days when musicians made music to covey their puzzlement of the mysteries of life.  Like an echo coming down a foggy tunnel you can hear the heartache of lost love in every breathy note that reverberates off his husky voice.   Listen to his music and hear something lost in the over-produced poppycock of present-day musical pandering.  Pay attention and you’ll hear it, its quiet, its whispering, its real.

Michael treated his friends and the packed Tin Roof Cantina on August 20, to an amazing evening of music! He sang so many fabulous classics and took many requests during the evening. Brian Wiltsey, MJ’s very accomplished guitarist from his Tin Roof Days accompanied him and they did some singing together as well..it was fabulous! He also had a few other friends come up to sing a song or two! What a night to remember and listening to MJ’s killer voice for at least 4 hours was just outstanding and a dream come true!! WTG MJ and thanks for such a wonderful time! :)

Michael killed it at Molly Malones this past Saturday night!! His setlist was just to die for..According to the LiterateGal’s tweets Michael sang “Statues”, Roy Orbison’s “Crying”, “Redemption”, Adele’s “Someone Like You” and “Taillights” (the one that is named as “Redemption” on The Rising Myspace).

We were so lucky with tweets, twitvids, pictures and videos from fans that attended and I know I can speak for all of us who weren’t there….a HUGE thank-you to everyone who shared!
MJ’s song choice was spot on and I think that “Crying” and “Someone Like You” showed off his voice to perfection!!
