Michael is lending his time and talent with his friends from Netball America, to support these wonderful awards for the “I Can Do It, You Can Do It” program in Miami FL 5/22. It was developed by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Office on Disability. It’s a physical fitness/activity program that links mentors with students with disabilities.
We are all so proud of how Michael “gives back”!! Not only super-talented but such a giving spirit!

Netball America Participating at President’s Active Lifestyle Award Presentation

Washington, DC, May 18, 2012 –(PR.com)– Netball America has announced that Dr. Jayne Greenberg [District Director of Physical Education and Health Literacy of Miami-Dade] has invited Netball America President Sonya Ottaway and American Idol Finalist, Michael Johns to attend the President’s Active Lifestyle Award (PALA +) presentation in Miami, Florida on May 22, 2012 for the “I Can Do It, You Can Do It” program. This is an initiative developed by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, Office on Disability, and is a physical fitness/activity program that links mentors with students with disabilities. 1,200 students with disabilities will be attending the awards presentation.

The mentor provides training and guidance to assist children by becoming physically active by participating for 30 minutes per day, 5 days per week, for 6 week intervals. Students with disabilities who complete the program receive the President’s Active Lifestyle Award patch and certificate. This program was designed to address the childhood obesity and type II diabetes also found in youth with disabilities who are more prone to be inactive. This event is associated with Mrs. Obama’s “Let’s Move” Campaign and is supported by the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition.

“We are honored to participate in the President’s Active Lifestyle Award Presentation. As Netball is an all inclusive sport, it allows different skills, ages and abilities to be well catered for. Our introduction of Netball into Miami-Dade County Public Schools and to students with disabilities will dramatically increase inclusion in the community by helping break down barriers that have historically kept people with and without cognitive disabilities apart,” said Sonya Ottaway, President, Netball America.

Shellie Pfohl, Executive Director, President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition will also be attending to provide M-DCPS students with disabilities their Presidential Active Lifestyle Award. Michael Johns, American Idol Season 7 Finalist will entertain the students, Clara Blum, Executive Office, Kamani, will launch the wireless version of Dance Dance Revolution (DDR), and Sonya Ottaway, President, Netball America, will introduce the students to the fastest growing national sport of netball.

“I’m excited to support the President’s Challenge Physical Activity, Nutrition and Fitness Awards. I truly believe people of all ages and abilities should be provided with opportunities to be educated on nutrition and to participate in physical activity. My participation in sports has opened up more doors for me than I could ever dream of,” said Michael Johns.The event will take place at Felix Varela Senior High School located at 15255 S.W. 96th Street, Miami, Florida 33196 from 11 am to 1 pm on May 22, 2012.

Let’s Move the Youth & Team USA Netball Fundraiser Saturday, May 19, 2012

We invite you to join us for a fun social evening at the NZ Consul Residence, 154 S Rockingham Ave, Brentwood, CA 90049 on Saturday May 19, 6-9pm.

Netball America President, Sonya Ottaway is hosting the event to help the public become aware of how Netball is helping American youth with bullying and obesity while encouraging team unity. All proceeds will go to these ‘Let’s Move the Youth Programs’ as well as support the first ever collegiate Team USA Netball heading to the world championships in South Africa in July.

Tickets only $20 and can be purchased here. Kids under 15 are free. Ticket price includes dinner, drinks (including the new range from Mike’s Hard Lemonade) and great entertainment featuring American Idol finalist Michael Johns, Wilson Phillips guitarist and backup vocalist Troy MacCubbin & band with special guest, Country Artist Stephen Rowe. Master of Ceremonies will be Kirsty Spraggon who is an award winning international speaker and author.
It would be great for you to welcome the first ever all American USA Netball team as they will be present. Be there early to grab a meat pie from the Aussie Import Company. A GOLFTEC professional will be there so you can get a golf swing analysis. Great silent auction items include: 1 week stay in a luxury villa in Orlando; golf lessons; autographed Wilson Phillips CD; 1 hour coaching session with Kirsty Spraggon, a stay at the Ramada West Hollywood and other great items. Netball players are welcome to the Carson Courts from 9-11am on May 19th to play some Netball games against the National Team.

Every year, Brit Week in Los Angeles honors prominent people and raises funds for important causes. This year, Piers Morgan was chosen and honored at the gala event, “An Evening With Piers Morgan”. The event benefited Children’s Hospital LA and was held at the gorgeous Beverly Wilshire Hotel (famous from the movie, “Pretty Woman”).

Katherine Jenkins, a mezzo-soprano and contestant on Season 14 of Dancing With The Stars performed at this wonderful gala as well as our own Mr. Michael Johns!
We couldn’t be any prouder of him!!

Michael Performed At The Horatio Alger Awards in Washington DC 4/13/2012

What a busy April for Michael! He was honored to perform at the 65th Horatio Alger Awards on April 13.

The Award is given annually to exceptional individuals in our society who, through courage and dedication, overcame the difficult circumstances they faced early in life and accomplished their goals. The Award is also a salute to these individuals’ philanthropic endeavors in their communities, nationally, and internationally.

It seemed fitting that Michael should sing at an awards event that honors the qualities of courage and determination of people to achieve their goals..he left Australia when he was still in his teens and came all alone to America to pursue a singing career and look at him now! So well done MJ..We just love you!!

Wow! MJ looks like a movie star

UPDATED: RED CARPET INTERVIEWS..HEAR MJ SING A FEW BARS AT 2:03!!

Celebrity Fight Night is a huge star studded event that has raised over $70 million over the past 17 years benefitting The Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center at Barrow Neurological Institute and other charities.
Awards are also given out at the event as a way to pay tribute to business leaders, entertainment and sports communities who represent qualities associated with The Champ and his determination to find a cure for Parkinson’s. Two of this years winners are NFL great, Larry Fitzgerald and Bill Austin, the CEO of Starkey…congratulations!

The gala, emceed by Reba McIntyre consisted of a live auction, a gourmet dinner and some very special entertainment from stars. Some of the performances were from Lionel Ritchie, Rascal Flatts, Jackie Evancho, Rita Wilson (wife of Tom Hanks) and again this year, our favourite and shining star, Michael!!

Michael and Rita performed “ALL I DO IS DREAM” by The Everly Brothers..just WOW!!! I wonder how many of us would have given our eye teeth to hear that! I can imagine it was absolutely amazing!

All of the fans are so proud of Michael for again supporting and giving his time and talent to this wonderful charity event…just one of the many reasons why we all love him.
We hope that this year’s event raised a ton of money!!

On March 6, Michael will be attending the 8th Annual K-Swiss Desert Smash, a charity celebrity tennis event benefitting Variety The Children’s Charity. It will be held again at the beautiful La Quinta Resort and Club.

Some of the superstar tennis greats attending are Novak Djokovic, 2012 Australian Open Men’s Champion, Mardy Fish, America’s top tennis player and World #8, Sam Querrey and MJ’s pals, The Bryan Brothers who are the World’s #1 doubles team!

Entertaining and rockin’ the crowds off their socks will be our super talented idol, Mr. Michael Johns and the fabulous Bryans!

Michael & Idol Pals Rock Union Station, Chicago 1/13

Michael and his Idol pals, put on a rockin’ show that was free for everyone on Friday night at the train station! The audience loved it and you can clearly tell they all had a great time too. Many thanks to Funjet Vacations for sponsoring this fabulous show!

Jimmy V Foundation Benefit Show 12/17

It was great that both Lori and Dawn were able to make it to the show. Hopefully, “Pastyann”, from our blog was able to make it too!!
What a great cause!! By all accounts, they had a fabulous time and brought us back some wonderful media. Thanks ladies!!
The bands for the evening were rockin’ and Michael, always amazing! The guys in the Jonas band played first. Next up was Jeff Foxworth’s band, Weekend Excursion, and then MJ who performed 4 fan-favourite songs with Jeff and then 1 song with W.E. The final and very special treat of the evening was MJ singing some of his new Christmas song to the girls
