Hold Back My Heart Review by Sherry Lipp (blogcritics.org)
June 19, 2009
Sherry Lipp, the author the blog American Idol Lowdown wrote an excellent review of “Hold Back My Heart” over at Blogcritics.org. Michael even “Tweeted” about it to show his appreciation. Thanks for such a great review, Sherry!
Hold Back My Heart does have a rock/soul vibe with a definite emphasis on soul. On this album Johns is certainly in his element, delivering a tight soul and old school R&B album. I dare say there is not a bad track on it. If anyone was unsure while watching Idol of what musical style Johns considered himself, they need only listen to this album. The songs are well written and all emphasize the strengths of his voice. The album’s first single “Heart On My Sleeve” was released in April and has been doing well on the adult contemporary charts. That is just an awesome review!!!! I am so ecstatic for Michael!! Just another few days till the album…I don’t want to wish my life away but I really want June 23 to get here soon..like now..hahah!!!
WTG Michael!!! I am so thrilled for you!!! I hope these are some of the best days ever for you!!
That was a very good review for Michael’s album. However, I was mystified by the author saying Michael’s To Love Somebody didn’t sound like disco (implying that the Bee Gees’ version did) when the Bee Gees recorded the song 6 years before their first R&B album, 7 years before Main Course (which included Jive Talkin’) and 9 years before Saturday Night Fever.
You must be a Bee Gees fan goldhilites. The short answer is I just watned to distinguish the Otis Redding sounding arrangement Johns used for this album against the Bee Gees sound. While it may not be totally fair given their entire body of work, the Bee Gees are primarily known as a disco band. Basically I was saying this version doesn’t sound like The Bee Gees.
JUNE 23 !!!!!!!
