The word on the street is that The Mavid Dance during the group number is to be no more. Apparently, the Idol tour people have had it with all the “crazy dancing” and have told them to stop. Why would they want them to stop doing something that the fans obviously LOVE? Comment and let your thoughts be known!

WHAT, no Mavid Dance??????? I’m crushed!!! That’s one of my favourite parts of the whole show!! I check every day after the concert so I can see what crazy moves they came up with this time!! I hope they just go ahead and do it anyway!!

The finale just went from fun and exciting and one of the highlights of the Idol tour to boring, predictable and forgettable.

Hmmmm, without the Mavid dance the finale goes from being one of the highlights of the show to being a good reason to leave the show early. PDSTM is overall a boring song and without the Mavid dance just not worth watching.
TPTB should appreciate the buzz that it’s been creating all over the net instead of putting a stop to it!!

There needs to be protests until they bring it back. How about chants of “Mavid, Mavid” while everyone files out of the arena before the song starts?
They’ll all leave anyway to get a good spot by the buses because the song is so boring without Michael’s dancing.

I think it is absolutely ludicrous that there is even talk of this. From what I have seen and heard pretty much everywhere this “foolishness” is a major highlight of the tour. David and Michael have an aussome chemistry that can’t be missed. What is wrong with them bringing this to an otherwise boring and repetitive number?
Maybe I am mistaken but I was under the impression that this tour was for the fans who has supported the show and the contestants. Part of what fans loved about their respective favorites was the personalities they displayed while on the show. So why would anyone want to ask them to quell those personalities? This is worse than idol brass getting pissed off at Michael for The Dan Band thing. Oooh my God, there were curse words used and is was suggestive. Here’s a thought: If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. And I don’t want to hear about the droves of people who won’t watch Idol because they are offended by Michael’s performance. It’s the same thing as Frenchie Davis vs Antonella Barba. Frenchie was kicked off because of her checkered past. Antonella stuck around. Could it be because Barba was more marketable? AI execs freaked over Michael’s performance but allowed Syesha to straddle a chair in a dress.
This disgusts me and quite honestly, it may have made up my mind for me regarding something I have been thinking about. If this comes to pass, there is a big possibility that I will not be watching Idol next year. If we are expecting smiling, pretty robots who do exactly as programmed instead of real people, I’m out.

Heaven forbid that the Idol machine allow the fans some enjoyment from the cheesy group numbers they foist upon us. Please Don’t Stop the Music is a lame song, doesn’t suit any of this years crop of talent, and is an anticlimactic ending to an otherwise great show. In spite of all of this, the Idols themselves made this a number to look forward to, and what do they tour producers do? Lighten up people! This is supposed to be about entertaining the people who’ve spent their hard-earned money to come see the show. After being subjected to giant Pop Tarts, do you really think our sensibilities will be offended by seeing the kids on stage having some fun? The Mavid (and Mason, and Misty) dancing was fun for the performers AND the audience. Please bring it back!!!!

Just think I was not even going to check myspace this morning..but a lil birdie told me to just check it out…well, I did and I appreciate the person for posting the message on Michael’s myspace. I went to the AI forum and lit a fire…I hope AI producers see the posts..
Anyways..In America there has always been those that come to Icon status because of their goofiness…I could make a list a mile long…Michael and David bring spice to the concerts and the audiences love the commaderie between them and Michael teasing the other idols and you can see them loosen up on stage and it is a joy to watch and hear the feedback…
More people are buying concert tickets because of the level of professionalism in this years concerts. If money talks, then they need to leave well enough alone.
I love seeing David C. get down and do the Cookie shuffle and Michael of course with his neat dance moves..Now we know he can really dance and not just hop…LOL

I was so disappointed last night at Worcester with no MAVID dance!!! We asked Michael about it in the aftershow signing line and he said they were asked not to do it. I told him we were going to protest and He WANTS us to write blogs/posts about it online. Let’s make our voices heard . I”m going tonight and bringing a sign. Please don’t stop the Mavid dance!!!!

—–I don’t understand what harm there is in this few seconds of fun! The last song is not the style of most of the performers- they seem almost uncomfortable with this choice. Why not allow the two who are probably most uncomfortable with it to make it more bearable, and more fun for the audience, by throwing in a dance step or two! I think American Idol is feeling a bit too powerful! What can they do if Michael and David continue to do the dances? I don’t think they could kick them off the tour.
—–This season was the most talented ever in my opinion, and I’m glad of that, because I believe it will be my last! Besides, I’ve found my American Idol in Michael… I don’t need to watch anymore!!!!!!

I think they (TPTB) do not like the focus on Michael and David and want the focus on the entire group. At any rate, it’s ridiculous and they should continue with the Mavid dances! I say send letters to Idol in protest!

This is so lame. I knew it would come to this. Too much focus on Michael! Now what . . . are we all supposed to sit through that idiotic group number? The tour producers need to lighten up and realize this is where the personalities are shown which in turn, gains fans! There is so much written about David C. appearing arrogant or smug while he is on stage. This was the chance for him to show that he is not that serious and can have fun with the best of them (i.e. Michael!) I guarantee fans will get up and leave early. There is nothing to stay for if they remove the Mavid dance from PDSTM. We must protest!

I’m sure it is a goof for them to do as well as for us to watch! It takes the monotony out of doing the same thing EVERY NIGHT for 3 months!
I too check myspace on the mornings after concerts to see the Mavid of the day!

Stupid, stupid, stupid. PDSTM is such a weak finale song. I don’t think any of the finalists would have picked it. The Mavid dance was the only thing that made it worth watching- the only bit of variety, spontaneity, and fun. The production police have no sense of humor.

i’ll never understand the production team, really. they don’t know what they’re doing. i mean, the dancing just made it entertaining, it’s going to be pretty boring now!! i didn’t see anything wrong with it, because everyone loved it and loved seeing their more “fun” side lol…i would think they’d be happy about it, because it made it worth it to stay and watch the whole number…i just think it’s really dumb for the producers to be all controlling about it…tons of people are going to be mad about it now, not like i ever liked the producers anyway haha…this is really disappointing =/ i can’t wait to read michael’s blog about it…

That sucks. I was hoping this was all just a rumor, but if someone said MJ told them, then I guess it must be true.
Why not let them have some fun with it? I thought the song was a poor choice, and doesn’t fit most of their styles . I mean David Cook is the winner. Shouldn’t they have done a rock song to further promote their rock winner?
Anyway that is beside the point now. They should at least get to keep doing the dances.

Truthfully, I didn’t think it was quite right for 2 men to be dancing whether in fun or whatever. I guess AI execs saw it like I did. I think it would have been better for Michael and maybe Carly or Michael and maybe Kristy or even Ramielle to dance around together. I know I will probably get alot of backlash from this but that is just the way I feel. I hope I haven’t offended anyone.

This is so upsetting the people at American Idol are just control freaks. Concerts are suppose to be fun and have things that aren’t rehearsed, not walking around on stage like robots like some of the performers on that tour. It’s a shame that they are going to take away something that everyone looks forward to and enjoys. But I hope this is the last year for American Idol, I think this season was by far the best out of all the years and I hope next year no one will watch it anymore. Thank god Michael didn’t sign to their record can you imagine what they would have him doing?

There’s not enough room here to leave my full opinion. For that, I found space on my blog. Who knows, it might next be a full article in an online magazine. I will leave this much of my thoughts here, though. You cannot imagine how glad I am that he refused to go with 19. Just a few more weeks and they will no longer have any say in what he chooses to do. Unfortunately, they stopped the dances before he could flip them off while doing The Puppet Dance.

Okay, who is really going to bother sticking around until the end of the show now? One of the things to look forward to at every show, and possibly the ONLY think that made staying until the very end worth it, was seeing the Mavid dance as well as Michael’s other antics. Now I won’t be surprised if half the arena starts leaving right after Cook finishes his set. Because seriously, Because seriously, having just a bunch of people just walk around stage singing a cheesy Rhianna song, mostly out of tune, is NOT worth it.

I was there last night with Michael as well. He noticed my “Mavid” shirt and started telling us about why there was no dance and how they had something awesome planned for us. He told us that he knows how much the fans look forward to it and how disappointed we were not to have had a dance, and definitely urged us to voice our opinions “on the messageboards.”

For me, it’s the perfect ending to the show! I love seeing what they come up with and the audience goes wild for it.
It is harmless and highly entertaining!
This is not cool IDOL!! They don’t like any individuality..if you don’t “dance” to Idols tune..you are stopped dead in your tracks!

I’m a guest on this site… and a “regular” at david-cook.org. Let me first say that nearly every Cook fan is a huge fan of MJ’s as well. We are starting a grass roots campaign to show the tour producers how we fans feel about them putting the kabosh on the Mavid Dance. Starting with New England fans TONIGHT, and then at the other concerts this week, we think everyone should bring signs and banners saying “Bring Back The Mavid Bro’Dance” and then during PDSTM the FANS IN THE AUDIENCE should do a special dance, or maybe even the Titanic move. TPTB will get the message, and David and Michael will crack up. I say go for it! We Cookies and Word Nerds love MJ and want to support David’s best friend.

These guys are the best and have worked their tails off this summer to put on an awesome concert and should have some say in all of this ! hi guys, i, too, am a guest of this site and regular at david-cook.org. we support michael and david in their Mavid Brodance all the way! these guys antics’ during have definitely been a highlight during this tour and it was a bad move by whatever sorry producer is trying to make them stop.
we will be chanting for “Mavid”, bringing signs, and…most fun of all…dancing in the aisles during the normal Mavid Brodance cue.

Hi MJ fans - I’m same as Scott - I’m from huge Cook fan from DC.org who also LOVES MJ, Mavid, Brodance and admire all the work these two have done for their fans. Stopped by to encourage all the MJ fans to take part in the fun - make the signs, chant MAVID DANCE, but especially to do a MAVID dance starting during that part of PDSTM. Can you imagine MJ and DC’s faces if they saw the audience doing that!!!

The only things that made that number tolerable were MJ’s shenanigans and the Mavid dance. We have 5th row seats for the Baltimore show this week. We plan to bring a Mavid sign!

I’ll be at the Baltimore and D.C. shows, and hope you will all join me in chanting Mavid and doing some Mavid dance moves during PDSTM.

This is “Miss Jenna Johns” and I’m so angry by this MAVID issue that I’m not even in the mood to joke. The “Idol Claw” as I like to call it; once again displays it’s gross pointy death pinch and destroys the smiles for ALL involved.
It was a bad song to begin with; no substance, and nothing that would work for a “rockstar”. However you don’t want stars nor do you don’t want talent…you want puppets. Is it some sort of inferiority complex because someone decided to display something known as “individuality”?
When you decided to step up the game this year with substantial talent so you wouldn’t be faced with the “Sanjaya Factor” again; you should have realized that with “great talent” comes some form of “personality”.
Oh cruel and clueless Idol Claw you should know that these guys continue to draw in the big bucks you’ve become accustomed to cashing in and without them YOU would be NOTHING. They saved you this year and your lame decisions that you seem to think are in your “best interest” are far from even “interesting”. You can’t speak of integrity when you have a giant plush pastry dancing around…then again I think we’ve established that integrity or true talent isn’t what you seek. You don’t like that for once you have adults on tour that have voices and opinions; and that they surpass your puppet master ways.
The talent that “made you” this year was the talent that brought in an entire age bracket different then years prior. Fans have come out in droves that realize what “real music” is and have loved and lived through such great bands as “The Beatles” and “The Rolling Stones”…but just like those great bands were once primped and tied down to “the man’s” bullshit they then broke the chains and put out “real music and emotion”…so will our guys here. Then you can sit back and coddle your giant dancing pastry and try to come up with another concept for a lame television show; because I was done with Idol the day you sucked out the fun and dug your clueless corporate claws in the backs of “our idols”.
So sit back and enjoy watching their rise to stardom when you can no longer reap the benefits and they then can continue to “dream on” and achieve “real careers”. You know careers… where they are able to act like human beings without some uptight talentless corporate drone with their hands up their asses controlling every movement and expression.

Just as the artists feed off of the energy from the audience, the audience feeds off of the energy from the artists. If the AI tour coordinators have any sense, they will give the Idols the freedom to generate the fun, positive energy that was evident during previous versions of PDSTM - and most especially the Mavid dance. It made my day to see the boys having fun - even if it meant just shrugging!

This is ridiciously the worst thing that i ever heard in this industry. It is supposed to be entertaining, but the most entertaining part of the show were stopped. I thought the whole point of the tour to entertained the concert goers that pay pretty decent amount of money. Apparently i was wrong, it is to entertain only few people on the top there…

Once again TPTB make a major mistake. PDSTM is supposed to be a chance for the idols to say goodbye to us and us to them. The song itself is barely tolerable. The only thing that keeps fans in their seats is getting to see the personalities of their favorites come out in their performance of the final number. Take that away and you might as well end the night with David belting out Billie Jean.
Without Mavid and other idol interaction, most people will probably slip out to either beat the traffic or claim a spot at the buses.
Mike, I hope you and David find a way around this oppression to continue to express yourselves through interpretive dance. LOL.

Hi MJ fans. I’m another regular david-cook.org member stopping by to express my support of the Mavid. Last nights performance of PDSTM says it all. TPTB have taken on the role of “The Grinch that Stole the Mavid”. There was NO joy in Whoville last night as evidenced by most, if not all of the AI performers, and the audience. Our support of MJ and DC should send a clear message to TPTB that messing with our guys will NOT be tolerated.

we voted all through the show and TPTB know we have huge numbers, they are in for a real surprise at the outcry of MAVID support in these next few shows if they don’t lighten up. I think it will also be a boost for MJ & DC to see the fans reaction.

Hey MJ fans, I am yet another member of d-c.org stopping by, and I too am a MJ fan, and more importantly a Mavid fan!! I think it is ludicrous for TPTB to think for any minute that they are offending anybody. I know everyone loves those dances, and come on, what can a 5 to 10 second dance hurt? Nothing, that’s what. We need to band together as fan bases and get the word out.
Seriously, this song was almost unbearable without the Mavid Brodance. That is the only reason why I watched the video of it. We are 2 fan bases that takes no prisoners, and TPTB will find out that they messed with the wrong people!

Why am I not surprised by yet another “genius” decision by the people making the decisions at AI?? This is ridiculous–Did someone say “Let’s try to suck all the fun right out of the concert? What can we do that we haven’t done already?” Leave Mavid alone and let their creative juices flow!! PS to “Kristy are you kidding” above–hey, it’s fine to disagree with someone but your ravings are no better and sometimes worse than the alleged or perceived prejudices you’re objecting to….IMO.

I am sure that the AI execs are permanently having to stave off the gay rumours about man-boobs Cowell and high-heels Seacrest. I also know people joke and write fan fics about Mavid bromance, but nobody seriously thinks Michael or David are gay, and they know it. That’s why they can do silly, sometimes gay dances together and make people laugh. Anyway, Michael dances or interacts with every person on stage (when he’s allowed).

This is an outrage!!!! Its because Fox’s second favorite show, behind Idol, is So You Think You Can Dance, and they are worried that Mavid will take away from them, well they already did!!! Honestly watch PDSTM from Idol gives back…it LAME!!!!!!!!! The Idols arnt even the ones being showcased its those show off dancers!!! Its called AMERICAN IDOL… a show for singers so, and Im sorry for those of you who may be a fan but seriously, So You Think You Can Dance is way pimped out so I think Idol is just mad that MAVID looks better then the people from SYTYCD….nothing competes with MAVID

Don’t get it! What’s the point in stopping the MAVID dances? Michael & David enjoy doing it and we , the fans, enjoy watching them. To TPTB–this is what we call E-N-T-E-R-T-A-I-N-M-E-N-T !!

Seriously, I have absolutely no idea what benefits will be reaped by banning the Mavid Moves. I totally doubt that Mavid enjoyed singing that Don’t Stop The Music in the first place, so why not let ‘em have fun with it? The other Idols don’t seem to mind too much either.
To TPTB, don’t just listen to the minority, cos it’s the majority of fans out there who enjoyed watching the Mavid Moves. I believe it’s also the same reason they stayed on till the end of the gig. Listen real hard and do the justifiable - by putting a seal on the Mavid Moves, is pure injustice.
And for those going to future concerts, don’t boycott - just go and enjoy the show. Also, keep hollering for the Mavid Moves. Mavid FTW!!
And btw, Kristy can go put a sock into her mouth for saying a thing like this. I have half the mind to believe that she snitched on Mavid, which I hope isn’t true.

I wonder if the people in charge who have ordered the Mavid dancing stopped are remembering that the people who are at the performances have paid money to be entertained and the Mavid moments are gasp!!!!!! entertaining. I don’t think they realize what people want are entertainers, not robots with someone controlling their minds. The Mavid moments are a way of culminating the joy that the people have felt at the entertainment…otherwise it is just a stupid song to end the show.

Just maybe some of the other idols were uncomfortable with the adlib dancing and were getting thrown out of time. They may have mentioned this to the managers or the managers just sensed it. Some performers just prefer to follow the script and stay in their comfort zone. At any rate Mavid & Co are not stupid and will probably follow orders, after all right now this is their bread and butter and they don’t want to jeapordize their future. I guess the little “war dances” will become a classic rememberence. Also maybe the “joke” would soon start to get stale so maybe it’s time to create some other unique little twist(s) to each performance that stays within “the rules”.

Wow, I never thought of that…maybe some of the other idols WERE thrown out of step. I mean you guys saw that choreography right? There were some MEAN dance moves there…REALLY hard. It was almost cirque du soliel in many respects! I mean it really has to be HARD to follow dance moves short of what a 4 year old could master; but then again some performers do like to follow script because they don’t have any spice or personality of their own to do anything creative on the spot. Some performers are robotic and some are born stars…you know “stars” the ones that stir things up and make you interested for more then a mere 15 minutes.
As for rules…sometimes they are made to be broken. Where would our Jim Morrison have been if he didn’t break any rules? Idol is nothing but a mere stepping stone to the “meat and potatos”…which as we all know is much more filling then “bread and butter”.
As for stale jokes…I enjoy them or I wouldn’t have read the comment above.

What?! No more funny Mavid dances??? That sucks! The only reason I watch the group number is to see the funny Mavid dances! I watch the videos with the sound turned off though….listening to that same song over and over and over again was working on my last nerve.

Touche’ ahah…HA but I wasn’t attempting to be humorus. Granted the degree of difficulty in the dancing (walking) is pretty low probably because they are NOT dancers. Here’s another perhaps…the show managers/choreographers may fear that the Mavid stuff was getting carried away and would grow to a point where it would look really unrehearsed and become a mockery and a mess….maybe even hurt somebody. I do understand the Jim Morrison correlation and agree that stifled creatiivity spoiles greatness (and fun). BTW bread and butter does go nicely with meat and potatoes. LOL
Seriously it’s amazing and annoying how those in charge can spoil simply pleasures for others, just look at the discussusion it has created here (88 posts now!) Why don’t they just re-arrange things a little to give “the boys” some freedom time and space to demostrate….but I’m sure the show will just go on as is.

My also husband mentioned to me that maybe some of the other Idols didn’t like it so much. Maybe the people who decided to put it to and end are trying to do it out of fairness to everyone on the stage.
It could be a farily standard HR type issue. Someone else felt upstaged, uncomfortable, out of step or whatever.
I don’t like that they stopped, but there could be a reason beyond just screwing the fans.

They could rearrange things to give the boys “play time”…however I guess that if it happens to be an issue to some of the other idols the complaints may just increase then. They will then want to know why the boys get “special treats”. If only they could learn how to “play nice” like we just did.

I really loved my Mavid moment at the Columbus show — and so did everyone in the audience. Can’t fathom why this five second bit of fun would bother anyone.
I feel badly for those concert goers (who spent a lot of money for tickets) who will
miss out on their Mavid moments.

The Mavid dances are a (large) part of what makes the finale good. It keeps it fresh, and the fans in anticipation of what they are going to do next. It is sad to hear that the Idol Tour people are trying to stop them. Group performances have always seemed a bit awkward and stiff to me, perhaps because there was so much choreography. This improvisation is so much more natural and fun. It’s hard to imagine PDSTM without the Mavid moment. Fans love it, and i personally i don’t see anything wrong with it at all. The performance would be so *blah* without it. And if it is shut down, it goes to show how controlling AI is, which is a sad truth. Please, please, don’t stop the Mavid!!

Lisa I’m the same . I watched the PDSTM videos with the sound turned off as the song is soooo monotonous!!!! I only wanted to watch MJ’s & the Mavid moves!
Just think about it- in the U2 group song before interval , is there any need for extra dance moves ? No!! Why? Because the song is a great song!!! Its all about SONG CHOICE!!!!! Don’t the judges say that all the time!!
Well TPTB - your song choice for the final number was woeful!!!! That is why Michael had to lighten it up trying to involve everyone else & loosen them up & he was succeeding with most of the others . Only a couple of them were’n't joining in!!
The reason the Mavid Dance worked was because MJ & DC are such good friends & they are comfortable with each other. The idols the other side could have done something as well , to not feel left out!!.
TPTB probably don’t know what having good friends is like as I doubt they have any!!!!

I doubt that the AI folks will reverse their decision on this….I’m sure they have a list of reasons why…especially in anticipation of the backlash.
